So you need to find an apartment in NY. If you want your own lease and not roommates on craigslist you need to use a broker. Seriously. Sorry. No way around it. Just trust me I tried for months without. But never fear! Go to Anchor Associates and ASK FOR MARIAM! She is the best! I had been extremely tentative about the broker process in general, but as soon as Mariam walked up I felt a sense of relief. She made the process so much easier and less stressful. It''s worth the fee. She found my boyfriend and I an apartment within our budget despite the difficult market. She was patient with us while we decided and worked with us even when small obstacles arose. In addition to being responsible and on top of it, Mariam is a genuine person you can trust, which you need when you are looking for something as important as a place to live, and which you want when you are spending hours walking around NYC looking for apartments!
